UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage
Other Intangible Culturale Heritages
Several Swiss living traditions are part of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage. These elements are practices, expressions, knowledge and skills that communities, groups and sometimes individuals recognise as part of their cultural heritage: the value of these elements must therefore be explained in order to ensure the long-term preservation of these centuries-old traditions.
Below are the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage elements present in Switzerland:
- Vevey Winegrowers' Festival (since 2016)
- Basel Carnival (since 2017)
- Avalanche risk management (since 2018)
- Dry stone wall construction (since 2018)
- Holy Week Processions in Mendrisio (since 2019)
- Alpinism (since 2019)
- Craftsmanship in watchmaking and art mechanics (since 2020)
- Alpine pasture season (since 2023)
- Traditional irrigation: knowledge, technology and organisation (since 2023)
- Yodel (2025)
